Today, I am going to talk about a very easy method that almost anyone can use to earn a few hundred dollars easily.
Done right, this method can fetch you up to $500 or more every week.
And it all starts with Craigslist!
By this point in time, Craigslist is more or less a household name. Sometimes famous and sometimes infamous, Craigslist fills a necessary niche in the internet community.
It was originally just a place to buy and sell, but of course, the Craigslist of today hosts real estate offers, dating requests, job postings, and a general host of opportunities.
One of these opportunities is perfectly simple: sell things that you don’t need.
Now, don’t write this off thinking it’s the same old “sell the trash in your basement” method. While it does have to do with selling, it has nothing to do with your unused stuff.
There is a twist in it that makes this method a very profitable method, one that I have used to profit from time and again.
The Concept
What we’re going to be talking about here is how to benefit from the people on Craigslist who are giving things away for free.
Think again!
People can and will be giving things away for free every day. It’s under the “For Sale” section, ironically, but it is true to its name. It is most certainly free.
Don’t just click on it, bookmark it and make it your homepage.
This place can be your gateway to unbelievable benefits if you use it correctly.
Colloquially, this might be called “flipping.” However, it is entirely possible to do the things discussed below with zero work put into refurbishing, so it might be more accurate to look at it as a simple buy-and-trade.
The plan is to pick up big thicket items that people are giving away for free on CL.
And by big ticket items, I mean mostly furniture and appliances, be it a dishwasher, couch, washer, drier, freezer, refrigerator, etc.
Why big ticket items?
Because they are easier to sell.
Individually they can fetch way more money than smaller stuff.
Usually there is not much work involved, except cleaning them up, taking a few pictures, and putting them on sale on Craigslist.
You Have to Be Fast
You want check the page (“Free” page of the “For Sale” section) as regularly as you can. That might mean once a day, twice a day, or even every 30 minutes.
The more you can check it, the better.
You want to get on the good stuff before anyone else can.
Sometimes, people will be giving something away for free that is just a stack of money waiting to be made, and you’re going to need to be quick on the draw if you want it.
An Example
A good haul will go something like this: a person posts something that they’re trying to get rid of for free, let’s imagine that it is an old dresser or something.
You drive over and pick the thing up (probably bringing two people along for a big piece of furniture like that) and you drive off.
You bring the piece home, clean it up, and take a few pictures.
In another section of Craigslist, you post an ad selling the same thing.
A piece of nice furniture like that can net you $250 or so.
Assuming that you picked it up in town, and the whole process took you an hour, that’s $125/hr a person.
If you’re really wise, you’ll line up multiple people that you’re going to be picking stuff up from, but you’d have to get lucky to find all those opportunities.
Of course, it’s recommended that you bring a truck or something.
Making a Regular Income
Now, if you have the vehicle in question, this can be even easier and more regular.
A pick up truck is a great asset to have when it comes to this opportunity, but it’s not a must. If you don’t have one, you can rent one. Our local Home Depot rents trucks for $20 for the first hour and $10 for every hour after that.
Or you can ask a friend who has a pick up truck to help you out in exchange for half of the profit.
You can spend a day or two in your week driving around, picking stuff up and reselling it.
It’s easy money that comes at no inconvenience to anyone; there are people who want stuff gone, and you, who is looking to sell it.
It’s recommended to get into checking the site on your smartphone, if you have one. That means you can stay up to date and in contact even when you’re out on the go– you don’t want to miss a good deal just because you stepped out to eat!
How Much Can You Make?
You can easily pick up a few hundred dollar’s worth of stuff in a day.
Heck, if you nail any really good deals you might be pushing your weekly figures up towards $1000, and no, that’s no exaggeration. Someone who is really dedicated might be able to do something like this full-time.
Just last year, I picked up a very nice china cabinet which I was able to sell on CL for a little over $1200.
Sure, deals like that are rare, but making a few hundred dollars a week is really not that hard to imagine.
Turn it Into a Real Business
Of course, you can feel free to inject more effort into the project if you want.
A competitive person might be able to nab the antique cupboards the moment they’re posted, but a more diligent person could easily pick up some broken stuff and fix it to sell.
If there are people throwing out good stuff, just imagine that there are people throwing out stuff that could easily be fixed.
This applies to anything, appliances, goods, even cars, if you’ve got the power to fix them up.
Or maybe you’re just a skilled businessman who doesn’t mind doing the leg work of picking all this stuff up.
Either way, there’s no reason not to look into it if you have the power, and want a simple way of earning an extra $100, $200, $300, $400, $500… a week.
